Within the city of Berkeley, a landlord and any associated partner can be held liable  for wrongful eviction proceedings. BERKELEY, CAL., MUN. CODE §§ 13.76.130(A),  13.76.040(D). Where a landlord’s actions can be constituted as intentional or willful,  

damage compensation may be tripled. BERKELEY, CAL., MUN. CODE §  13.76.150(B). Compensation related to emotional distress may also be tripled when  violations are knowingly committed in disregard of a tenant’s rights. BERKELEY,  CAL., MUN. CODE § 13.79.060(H)(3). Legal fees are also eligible for inclusion in the  compensation package for a winning case. BERKELEY, CAL., MUN. CODE §  13.79.040(C). 

Oakland, California

Within the city of Oakland, a landlord, as well as any associated partner or person can be held liable for wrongful eviction proceedings. OAKLAND, CAL., MUN. CODE  §§ 8.22.370(A)(2), 8.22.340.
